Would a 'florida villa' style build withstand weather conditions if built in the UK?

I adore the architectural style of the villas you see throughout Florida. I know that these properties are mainly built of timber construction and plasterboard inside. Would this kind of build withstand the british weather conditions if built in the UK and waterproofed? or would the internal heat escape the timber and be too thin? any input much appreciated!

1. You can build any style anywhere. the problem as you already guessed is staying warm. because of the type of construction you would have to go to a higher quality insulation, Higher quality= higher price. Talk to qualified people there. get some quotes. good luck
2. The ground water comes up to close to the surface in most of the UK for that kind of construction, unfortunately, the building would be plagued with "rising damp" and would rot and fall down within a dozen years or so! I recall (when I first moved to the US) being astonished there were 100-year-old houses built entirely of wood that were still solid!
