what are the read-headed flies common on beaches in southwest florida called? i just returned from vacation in naples, florida, and ive got a bunch of bug bites. i believe these flies are the culprit, because i did not note many mosquitos around. the flies in question have a black body, a red-head, are around the size of a standard house fly, and are often observed flying piggyback on one another. i saw them primarily on the beach, but also killed hundreds of them with the grill of my car while driving on the highway. im just trying to figure out what insect is the culprit for my current itchy state. thanks!

How do the beaches in Jacksonville, Florida compare to beaches in Virginia Beach, Virginia? I am looking for a white sands, clear, clean, warm water where we can swim comfortably in July. It is easier for us to go to VA but wondering if it is worth the extra trip to FL?

What can we do in Florida instead of going to theme parks and beaches? My family is planning on going to Florida the second week of April. We will probably go to either the Daytona Beach area or the Tampa area. Which area do you think is better? My sister and I are 17 and 18, and we are too old to be going to theme parks so we won't be going to Orlando as usual. What other fun stuff can we do in the areas I mentioned? Ocala is located in cental Florida. How far are the beaches? Can you please tell me how far the beaches would be either east or west of Ocala. I am not interested in lakes or springs . I mean the ocean or gulf of mexico as my body of water. Also how long would it take to get to the beaches.
