Is Florida more like the west coast? In terms of mentality and culture, it seems like Florida would be more slower paced like the west coast, as well as all the beaches. I've only been there a few times but am thinking of transfering their for school. Is it more like the west coast?
Why are Florida's Gulf Coast beaches so much better-looking than beaches on the AL, MS, and TX Gulf Coasts? I first thought it was the composition of the sand, as I was directly comparing Gulf Coast beaches in Northwest Florida such as those in Pensacola, Destin, and Panama City (which all have sugary-white sand), to the beach at South Padre Island, Texas (which has darker beige sand). But then I looked at photos of beaches near Northwest Florida but in the adjacent states of Alabama and Mississippi -- Dauphin Island/Mobile and Gulf Shores in Alabama and Biloxi in Mississippi. Those beaches have the same nice white sand that the Florida beaches do but the water colour is different. In Northwest Florida, the water is a tropical emerald blue-green colour, as you'd find in the Carribean or the Bahamas, while the water in Alabama and Mississippi (and Texas) is mostly a dull, dark blue-brownish colour. It seems like the proverbial God has blessed Florida with better beaches than the other Gulf Coast states, even when these other states' beaches are just miles away from the beautiful ones in Florida. What's the deal? The muddy Mississippi River empties out southeastward in Louisiana west of all the beaches in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, so I'm not sure it greatly affects those beaches, and South Padre Island in Texas is far, far south of the Mississippi River's mouth (and away from the direction that it empties out), so it would seem unlikely that the river would have much impact on the colour of the water in Texas. South Padre Island is even Texas's most beautiful beach (which still doesn't compare to those in Northwest Florida), with beaches farther north on the state's Gulf Coast such as Port Aransas and Galveston being uglier and browner. Why have Texas, Alabama, and Mississippi been shafted when it comes to beach beauty while Florida has taken all the blessings? Obviously, this has to do with Mother Nature, but Nature seems to have been very unfair to all the Gulf Coast states but Florida, if we are to judge.

What are the best beaches on Florida's east coast? My husband and I are planning to drive to Florida after the New Year. Obviously we can't enjoy the ocean on the west side after the oil spill, so we're looking for a beach with clean, blue water. The further North in the state, the better. So what are the best Florida beaches in January-February?
Has anyone been to Longboat Key Florida on the West Coast? I heard from a coworker that Longboat Key is supposed to be gorgeous with awesome beaches and plenty to do. Is this a nice place for Valentine's day weekend? How much are the hotels? What is there to do here?? Any places you recommend? Any places to avoid? The more information the better! We are in our early 20's and do not want to spend the entire weekend at bars, we want more of a romantic, relaxed mood. Thanks in advance!!
Where to live on Florida's west coast? I currently live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is a little too expensive for me. Plus, the beaches are not that great....brown sand and no shells. The people are kinda rude too. I'd like to try living on Florida's west coast. What cities should I check out? I, of course, want a nice, safe place to live. Any suggestions would be MUCH APPRECIATED. Thanks! P.S. I am a court reporter...if you know anything about a good court reporting agency. Most important, though, right now is a good place to live.
How is the west coast of Florida to retire to? Any suggestions to which areas are best? We love beach, sand and sun. We want a townhouse because my husband has a Harley. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you know of actual sites, please put them in your answer. We're still young (early 60) but obviously we act younger, (harley) and we love to cruise. We need a CLEAN area and the town home could have 2-3 bedrooms, definite garage at least 2 baths and a beautiful pool....anyone out there with info???

I would like to have a beach wedding on Florida's West coast, but don't want a hotel. Any other ideas? I really would like to keep the wedding as cheap as possible and I want to be able to do my own catering so if there's a hotel that allows that than those hotels are okay too. I've heard about renting a house. Anyone ever try that and was it expensive? Problem is we're poor college kids and probably can only spend 5,000 to 7,000 dollars. It has always been my dream to get married on the beach and any advice about beach weddings would be wonderful. Also our wedding won't be until May 2013, so I have a year and a half to plan if that helps.
What are some cooler beaches on the east coast.? Which state would I find beaches with a cooler temperature? It has to be kind of close to Georgia. Florida is a bit hot for my taste. I know Cali has some cooler beaches but to bad it's on the west coast. Maybe some beach areas in North Carolina? Anyone know any towns around there where I could find some rental homes?
Beaches in Florida? I am going to Disney in August, But one day we would like to go to a beach. I heard that the west coast beaches are much nicer than the East coast beaches. East coast or West Coast? Hi what are your opinions on the East Coast and West coast?I have been looking at beach communities or Cities by the Oceans on Both coasts.I see the East Coast you get alot more for your buck.On the East cost I have been looking at places in Florida like Daytona Beach and places similiar to.On the West Coast I have been looking in South Cal.I just can't get over this idea in my head that when I think California I think young, hip, parties, exciting. When I think East Coast I think old, retired, history.I know I'm wrong but I just have this preconcieved idea ,but I need to be convinced the Florida beaches excluding Miami are fun, hip, bueatiful girls and parties and every bit as exciting. What DO YOU THINK?

Which is better West Coast or East Coast? In my opinion I believe that the East Coast (new england, maryland, d.c., virginia, the carolina's and florida) is by the best coast or region to live in the united states. Think about it, some of the nation's best beaches belong to the east coast (florida and the carolina's) let along the amounts of history dating back long ago. Historic cities such as D.C., Charleston, Richmond, Baltimore, Boston, Philly etc... Lets not forget about the city that never sleeps, the capital of the world New York City!!! From the mountains to the coast, we got it, I love the east coast, what do you think? and whats some other stuff that you love about this wonderful side of this country, stretching from maine to florida?
Where is a good vacation spot to surf in Florida? I want to go on a trip this summer and I was wondering where is a good spot to surf in Forida? Where to live on Florida's west coast? What city on Florida's west coast is a good, safe city for a single female to live at? I prefer somewhere kind of close to the beach/ocean, if possible. Can you eat a clown knife fish? I obtained a clown knife fish caught in freshwater off the coast of West Palm Beach Florida and am not familiar with the fish at all. Good beaches north of Tampa Bay area? I'm a native Floridian and even this one has me stumped! Are there any good public beaches north of Tampa Bay on Florida's west coast, but before you reach the Panhandle? Say, in Dixie, Levy, Citrus, and Hernando counties, the area commonly called the "Nature Coast." Or is that entire area basically swamp and wetlands? I'm not concerned with having pristine white sand and crystal clear water, just a decent beach where you can swim, not a swamp. Again, NOT the Panhandle. Thanks for the help!
For beach lovers;California or Florida? Hey folks,I'm a beach guy and love living in a place that has close access to the beach.that's why I don't like the states located either central or away from the coast.okay, about the east and west coast, both are great places to live because they lie along the coast, but I prefer Florida to California for one reason;Florida has beaches on the east and the west while California only has beaches on the west.the east part of California is all desert.I love Florida!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where can I take my mom and her dog on a weekend vacation in Florida? My mom has an 80lbs American Bull Dog he's about 9mths old and is house trained. How high does blue Caribbean water stretch up Florida’s coast? I’m going to be in Orlando for a couple weeks and would like to take the kids to see clear blue water. I know Cocoa Beach is the closest but it’s far from blue. About what city/beach would I first encounter this blue water, and what city/beach would you recommend (Aside from going all the way down to the Key West region)? Thanks in advance!
West Coast, East Coast, The Gulf; which is the best to live? I am looking for the perfect place to move to. I have been to Cali, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Virgina, and I live in Texas now. I have been to the beaches in all these places and I love the beach and I am wanting to move to one. Since I have never lived at the beach before - I am asuming that what I experienced on a trip that lasted a couple of days is different from actually living there. I like having civilization around me (malls, festivals, museums and so on...) I eat Oranic foods and I am a veggie. So I would like to have a Whole Foods or some place like that around. There isn't one place I liked better than the other. I liked them all, which makes my decision hard. If you have any information on any beaches in the US that have the above qualities please let me know. Thank you I am looking for the perfect place to move to.
